This painting is intended to be a tribute to wonder and magic, particularly the experience of these from a child’s perspective. I often find myself nostalgic for my own childhood, wishing I could turn back time and once again experience the simplistic joy of creating stories or playing “make-believe”. I long for the sweet innocence of a world where human and animal speak the same language, and while away sunkissed days together in tall grass or lush gardens sharing secrets of their hearts or mythical tales. While this painting is a tribute to childhood, it is simultaneously a reminder that our “inner child” never leaves us; we grow around our younger selves, rather than over them. I believe that child-like innocence, imagination, and purity of heart are always possible to access, and that they exist as an eternal (if sometimes elusive) wellspring in the depths of our beings. There are inner realms in which we nestle into flowerbeds and sing love songs with the birds, and, just like many fairy tales of old, only once we believe it will we see it.
